                      SYNOPSIS AS ENACTED

Brief Description:  Changing the membership of the joint legislative systems committee.

HOUSE COMMITTEE ON STATE GOVERNMENT

BACKGROUND:

In 1986 the Joint Legislative Systems Committee was created to oversee the direction of the information processing and communications systems of the Legislature.  The committee was also charged with enforcing the policies, procedures and standards of these information and communications systems and with employing a legislative systems coordinator.  The eight members of the Joint Legislative Systems Committee are:  the Speaker of the House of Representatives; the minority leader of the House of Representatives; a member from each of the two largest caucuses in the House of Representatives appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives; the majority leader of the Senate; the minority leader of the Senate; and a member of each of the two largest caucuses in the Senate, appointed by the majority leader of the Senate.  Members serve two-year terms.  The Legislature wishes to reduce the Joint Legislative Systems Committee to four members.

SUMMARY:

The Joint Legislative Systems Committee shall consist of four members:  A member from each of the two largest caucuses in the House of Representatives, appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives; and a member from each of the two largest caucuses in the Senate, appointed by the majority leader of the Senate.
