BACKGROUND:

 

The Governor may authorize local law enforcement officials to request the extradition of fugitives from other states.  When law enforcement officials travel to another jurisdiction to return the fugitive to Washington, their expenses are paid by the general fund from an appropriation to the Governor.  The rate of reimbursement is set by the local government.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The requirement that the state reimburse extradition costs is eliminated.
