BACKGROUND:
In 1993 the Legislature created the Department of Community, Trade, and Economic Development. One of the responsibilities of the new department is to focus assistance on targeted sectors of the economy. The department was specifically directed in the 1993 legislation to promote, market, and encourage growth in the production of films, videos, and television commercials in the state.
SUMMARY:
The Department of Community, Trade, and Economic Development is directed to assist in the location of a film and video production studio in the state.

TESTIMONY FOR:
This bill will assist in locating a sound stage in Washington and attracting motion picture production. Additional films shot here will result in additional jobs and additional taxes for the state. The competition for the state is intense and this bill will permit the state to be a partner in promoting the industry.
