BACKGROUND:

 

Recall of an officer of a city of the first class requires that a certain number of signatures of legal voters be secured upon the recall petition.  The number of signatures required is 25 percent of the total number of votes cast for all candidates for the office to which the officer who is the subject of the recall was elected at the preceding election.  All other cities and towns must secure 35 percent of the same total number.

 

SUMMARY:

 

On a recall petition, all cities and towns need secure only 25 percent of the total number of votes cast for all candidates for the office to which the officer who is the subject of the recall was elected at the preceding election.
