BACKGROUND:

 

The animal cruelty statutes do not apply to experiments or investigations that are performed under the authority of the faculty of an incorporated college or university in the state of Washington. 

 

SUMMARY:

 

The exemption from the animal cruelty statutes that presently applies to colleges and universities is extended to a research facility registered with the United States Department of Agriculture and regulated under the interstate commerce language of the animal transportation and handling statutes in federal law.
