BACKGROUND:

 

Article III, Section 1 of the state Constitution declares that the executive department shall consist of a Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Auditor, Attorney General, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and a Commissioner of Public Lands.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Upon approval and ratification of the qualified voters of the state at the next general election, the Office of Secretary of State is abolished.  The Attorney General shall assume responsibility for all duties of the Secretary of State.
