HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 94-4684, by Representatives Sehlin, Quall and Karahalios

 

               WHEREAS, It is the policy of the Washington State Legislature to recognize excellence in all fields of endeavor; and

               WHEREAS, Rosanna Mae Walrath has exhibited the highest level of excellence in her commitment to children throughout over twenty-three years of sacrificial service within the public schools of Washington State; and

               WHEREAS, Rosanna Mae Walrath, known to many of her friends as Dot or Rosa, was born to Pearl and Harry Walrath in 1914, along with an older brother, Dawn, who was born in 1912; and

               WHEREAS, Rosanna Mae Walrath graduated from Orcas Island High School in 1931, was awarded a Life Diploma from Bellingham Normal School (now Western Washington University) in 1938, one of the last Life Diplomas awarded by the State of Washington, received her B.A. from Western Washington College of Education (now Western Washington University) in Bellingham in 1941, and did graduate studies at the University of Hawaii in 1963; and

               WHEREAS, Rosanna Mae Walrath worked in a fish cannery, as a keypunch operator and lead girl at Boeing, as a civilian worker in the Navy General Store at the Kodiak, Alaska Naval Base, as a postal worker, as a keypunch operator at Convair Aircraft before finally establishing herself in her education career; and

               WHEREAS, Rosanna Mae Walrath proved her dedication and competence as a teacher at Timon, Orcas Island, Acosta, Burlington, Anacortes Whitney School, Anacortes Central Grade School, and Anacortes Fidalgo School, and as Anacortes Head Librarian of all elementary schools from the fall of 1960 until she retired in the summer of 1972; and

               WHEREAS, Rosanna Mae Walrath is involved in her church, in the hospital as a weekly volunteer, and in organizing classes and attending meetings at the Anacortes Senior Center; and

               WHEREAS, Rosanna Mae Walrath has demonstrated her lifelong devotion to family, friends, coworkers, schools, and communities as an inspiration to all those her life has touched;

               NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the State of Washington honor Rosanna Mae Walrath for the dedicated service that characterizes her life's work, and for the outstanding example of diligence and virtue she has set for others, and that her future efforts will bring her the same amount of happiness and success; and

               BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to Rosanna Mae Walrath, and to the Superintendent of the Anacortes School District No. 103.
