Modifying certification of public water supply system operators.


          AN ACT Relating to public water supply system operators; amending RCW 70.119.150; and adding a new section to chapter 70.119 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

        Sec. 1.  RCW 70.119.150 and 1977 ex.s. c 99 s 15 are each amended to read as follows:

          The waterworks operator certification account is created in the general fund of the state treasury.  All fees paid pursuant to section 2 of this act and any other receipts realized in the administration of this chapter shall be ((paid into the general fund)) deposited in the waterworks operator certification account.  Moneys in the account may be spent only after appropriation.  Moneys from the account may be used by the department of health to carry out the purposes of the waterworks operator certification program.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 70.119 RCW to read as follows:

          Pursuant to this chapter, the department of health certifies individuals responsible for the active daily technical operation of public water supply systems and monitors public water supply systems to ensure that such systems comply with the requirements of this chapter and regulations implementing this chapter.  In order for the department to recover the costs of the waterworks operator certification program, the secretary of the department of health, consistent with RCW 43.70.250, shall from time to time establish a schedule of fees to be assessed to certified operators and those applying to become certified operators and a separate schedule of fees to be assessed to public water systems, which, in total, shall be sufficient to meet the costs of the waterworks operator certification program.  All fees assessed under this section shall be payable to the waterworks operator certification account created by RCW 70.119.150.
