AN ACT Relating to reducing the number of state executive branch elected officials; creating new sections; and providing a contingent effective date.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. The senate committee on governmental operations and the house of representatives committee on state government shall prepare for submission to each committee's respective house of the legislature, by January 1, 1995, the legislation necessary to provide for the governor's appointment of the treasurer, the superintendent of public instruction, and the commissioner of public lands. This legislation shall provide for confirmation of the appointments by the senate.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. The statute law committee shall prepare and submit to the legislature, by January 1, 1996, any technical changes to the Revised Code of Washington made necessary by constitutional amendment or the legislation required under section 1 of this act.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 3. This act shall take effect upon certification by the secretary of state if the proposed amendments to Articles II and III of the state Constitution reducing the number of state executive branch elected officials (S-2072.1/93) are validly submitted to and are approved and ratified by the voters at the next general election. If the proposed amendments are not so approved and ratified, this act is void in its entirety.
