Prohibiting speeding in construction zones.

          AN ACT Relating to speed limits in construction zones; adding a new section to chapter 46.61 RCW; and prescribing penalties.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 46.61 RCW to read as follows:

          (1) The secretary of transportation shall adopt standards and specifications for the use of traffic warning and control devices in areas where highway construction and maintenance work is in progress.

          (2) No person may drive a vehicle in a construction zone at a speed greater than that allowed by traffic warning and control devices that have been posted in accordance with rules adopted under subsection (1) of this section.

          (3) A person who violates subsection (2) of this section is subject to a monetary penalty of five hundred dollars.
