Imposing an additional monetary penalty for persons who speed in construction zones.



          AN ACT Relating to speeding in construction zones; adding a new section to chapter 46.61 RCW; and prescribing penalties.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 46.61 RCW to read as follows:

          A person found to have committed any infraction relating to speed restrictions at a location posted by prominently displayed signs or flaggers, or both, where construction, repair, or maintenance work is being conducted on or adjacent to a highway shall be assessed, in addition to the monetary penalty assessed under RCW 46.63.110, a monetary penalty of one hundred dollars.  This one hundred dollar monetary penalty may not be waived, reduced, or suspended.

          Funds collected under this section shall be used for the installation and maintenance of public information signs along highways indicating the following:

                                                                  "$100.00 fine for speeding

                                                                   in a construction zone."
