Requiring the state auditor to contract with certified public accountants for post-audits of legislative branch and judicial branch agencies.



          AN ACT Relating to post-audits of legislative and judicial branch agencies; and amending RCW 43.09.300.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

        Sec. 1.  RCW 43.09.300 and 1988 c 53 s 1 are each amended to read as follows:

          There shall be in the office of the state auditor a division to be known as the division of departmental audits.  The state auditor may appoint and deputize an assistant to be known as chief examiner, who shall have charge and supervision of the division and who may, with the approval of the state auditor, appoint and employ such state examiners and clerical assistants as may be necessary to carry out the duties of the division.  In addition, the state auditor may contract with certified public accountants certified in Washington to carry out such portions of the duties of the division of departmental audits as the state auditor may determine.  The state auditor shall contract with certified public accountants certified in Washington to carry out all post-audits of the following legislative branch and judicial branch agencies:  The senate, the house of representatives, the legislative budget committee, the legislative evaluation and accountability program committee, the legislative transportation committee, the office of the state actuary, the joint legislative systems committee, the statute law committee, the supreme court, the law library, the court of appeals, the commission on judicial conduct, and the administrator for the courts.
