Funding six learning centers for juvenile parolees.



    AN ACT Relating to educational programs for juvenile offenders; creating a new section; and making appropriations.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  The legislature recognizes that learning centers established under RCW 28A.190.010 provided a necessary and effective education service for juvenile parolees.  The purpose of this act is to restore funding of learning centers to the 1991-1993 biennial level to reopen the six learning centers closed in 1993 for lack of funding.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  The sum of two hundred thousand dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1995, from the general fund to the department of social and health services division of juvenile rehabilitation for the purposes of this act.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 3.  The sum of nine hundred fifty thousand dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1995, from the general fund to the superintendent of public instruction for the purposes of this act.
