SB 6248 - DIGEST

 

     Includes flood damage control requirements in land use planning provisions.

     Directs state agency heads to promote the public health, safety, and welfare and to reduce the risk of flood losses in connection with state lands and facilities.

     Directs the department of transportation to assess the impact of roads and bridges on flood plains.

     Directs agencies to encourage through the permit requirements the removal of materials from rivers and streams where there is a flood damage reduction benefit.

     Requires consideration of whether projects protect fish and wildlife.

     Requires the use or modification of a river system to involve basic hydraulic principles, as well as harmonize as much as possible with existing aquatic ecosystems, and with human needs.

     Repeals RCW 79.90.325.
