     On page 1, after line 12, strike all material down to and including "affected." on line 12, page 4, and insert the following:

     "NEW SECTION. Sec. 2.  A new section is added to 28A.605 RCW to read as follows:

     (1) Any parent or legal guardian is hereby granted the right to withdraw his or her child from any class, activity, or service provided by the common schools if the class, activity or service is objectionable to the parent based on the parent's personal, academic, moral or religious beliefs, and if the withdrawal does not conflict with truancy laws in chapter 28A.225 RCW.

     (2) Any parent or legal guardian who chooses to withdraw his or her child from a class, activity, or service shall make the request in writing or in person to the school district or school.

     (3) Removal of a child by the parent shall in no way eliminate the responsibility of the parent to provide for the basic education of a child as required in 28A.150 RCW. 

     (4)  Each school district shall annually notify the parents or guardians of children enrolled in the school district of the rights granted in subsection (1).

NEW SECTION. Sec. 3. The state board of education shall provide school districts a model form that may be used by school districts to notify parents and guardians of the rights granted in section one of this act."

     Correct the title accordingly.

EFFECT:  Gives parents the right to remove their child from a class activity or service if it is objectionable based on personal, academic, moral or religious beliefs.  Strikes sections 2 through 7.
