     On page 12, after line 10, insert the following new section:

     "NEW SECTION. Sec. 12. The sum of two million eight hundred thousand dollars of the state general fund is appropriated for fiscal year 1997 through the biennium ending June 30, 1997, to the superintendent of public instruction to enhance the school security grant program under the conditions specified in laws of 1995 2nd sp. sess. c 18 s 501(1)(f) as amended by the 1996 supplemental operating budget for fiscal year 1997."

     Renumber the remaining sections consecutively and correct internal references accordingly

     Correct the title

     On page 12, line 15, strike "This act is" and insert "Section 12 of this act shall take effect July 1, 1996.  The remaining sections are"

     Correct the title accordingly

EFFECT:  $2.9 million is appropriated from GFS to the superintendent of public instruction to enhance the school security program.  That provision will take effect July 1, 1996.
