Background:  After October 1, 1995, school districts will be required to purchase liability insurance through contracts with the Health Care Authority.  The Health Care Authority is unable to meet this need.

Summary of Bill:  School districts are not required to purchase liability insurance through the Health Care Authority.

Appropriation:  None.

Fiscal Note:  Not requested.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.

Testimony For:  This legislation corrects a technical error.  The Health Care Authority does not provide liability insurance.  School districts currently purchase liability insurance from school district insurance cooperatives and the private market.
