Background:  State law requires various types of public records to filed and stored.   Public records may be stored in a variety of formats, including paper, photographs, film, sound recordings, map drawings, machine-readable material, among others.

 

Summary of Bill:  The compact disc is added to the list of allowable forms by which public records are to be stored. 

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Not requested.

 

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.

 

Testimony For:  The compact disc is a cheaper and more efficient way to store data compared to most other methods.  This bill simply provides for an alternative to the existing methods of data storage.
