Brief Description:  Changing tuition for full‑time nonresident undergraduate students at the University of Washington and Washington State University.

Background:  In Washington, tuition rates are set by law.  During the 1995-96 and 1996-97 academic year, tuition rates will increase by 4 percent each year.  Full-time nonresident undergraduate students at the University of Washington (UW) and Washington State University (WSU) will pay an annual tuition rate of $8,599 for the 1996-97 academic year.

 

Tuition for nonresident undergraduate students enrolled at the UW is about 20 percent lower than tuition for nonresident undergraduates at peer institutions.  Tuition for nonresident undergraduates at WSU is close to peer averages.

 

Summary:  During the 1996-97 academic year, at the UW and WSU, tuition for full-time nonresident undergraduate students and other nonresident students who are not enrolled in graduate or first professional study programs will increase from $8,599 to $9,491.
