Background:  The code city statutes provide for the appointment of a councilmember pro tempore to serve during the absence or temporary disability of a councilmember.  Other forms of local government lack similar authorizing legislation.

 

Summary of Bill:  Authorization for the appointment of officials pro tempore is granted to second class cities, towns and council-manager form of local government.

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Not requested.

 

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.

 

Testimony For:  This bill is a technical cleanup bill which ensures that there will be a sufficient number of people to make decisions in these jurisdictions.
