Background:  In 1994, the Legislature enacted a law that permits civil judgments to be renewed and enforced for an additional ten-year period.  However, no language was included to extend a judgment lien based on an underlying judgment that has been renewed under this statute.

Summary of Bill:   A lien based upon an underlying judgment that has been renewed continues in force for an additional ten-year period.

Appropriation:  None.

Fiscal Note:  Not requested.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.

Testimony For:  This is a technical correction to address an oversight in the law enacted last year to allow renewal of judgments.
