Title:  An act relating to motor vehicle insurance.

 

Brief Description:  Requiring consideration of the use of an anti‑theft window etching system when setting motor vehicle insurance rates.

Background:  Motor vehicle insurance carriers are required by law to consider certain factors in the rate-making process.  These include maintenance of anti-theft devices, certain lights and light devices, and vehicles covered under a policy where more vehicles are covered than there are insured drivers in the same household. 

 

Summary of Bill:  Consideration of a window identification system, where letters or numbers are etched into all windows of the motor vehicle, must be considered by motor vehicle carriers in the rate-making process.  This factor is added to the list of currently required considerations.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
