Background:  In 1993, a bond authorization of up to $100 million was authorized to provide funds for the location, design, right of way, and construction of selected interstate and other highway improvements.

 

Up to $25 million of this amount was to cover state and local matching fund requirements for ten ISTEA demonstration projects; up to $50 million was to temporarily cover the federal-aid apportionments, which allowed the state to qualify for additional federal money; up to $25 million was dedicated for loans to local governments to meet matching fund requirements to take advantage of available federal funds; and up to $60 million was to be used for completion of two HOV projects (SR 167 and SR 5).

 

Summary of Substitute Bill:  The bond authorization is increased by $35 million, to be dedicated for high occupancy vehicle lane projects.

 

Substitute Bill Compared to Original Bill:  The increased bond authorization is reduced from $60 to $35 million, to be dedicated for high occupancy vehicle lane projects.

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Not requested.

 

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
