Title:  An act relating to authorizing the payment of property taxes by credit card.

Background:  Property taxes shall be paid to the county treasurer in one payment, by April 30, or in two payments, 1/2 by April 30 and 1/2 by October 31.  There is no provision for the treasurer to accept property tax payments by credit card.

 

Summary of Bill:  The county treasurer is given the authority to choose to accept payment of property taxes by credit card.  The treasurer may collect up to a 5 percent processing charge and adopt reasonable procedures to avoid the fraudulent use of credit cards.

 

Appropriation:  None.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
