Title:  An act relating to home and real estate inspectors.

Background:  Individuals who perform home inspections for compensation are not currently required to be licensed to conduct such activity.

 

Summary of Bill:  Individuals who engage in the business of performing home inspections must comply with the contractor registration requirements established under current law. These include: registering with the Department of Labor and Industries; obtaining a bond; including state registration numbers on advertising materials, and other business-related correspondence, contracts, and documents; and abiding by other business practices outlined in statute.  Home inspectors are specifically exempt from additional contractor insurance/financial requirements contained in current law.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
