SENATE COMMITTEE ON LABOR, COMMERCE & TRADE
Staff: Max Williams (786-7439)
Background: Persons conducting the business of installing or maintaining wires or equipment to convey electric current, or installing or maintaining equipment operated by electric current, must have a valid electrical contractor's license. Persons conducting specialized electrical work may obtain a specialty electrical contractor's license which limits the scope of the electrical work to that specialty. These specialties include, but are not limited to: residential, domestic appliances, limited energy systems, signs, and pump and irrigation.
All electrical contractors licenses must be secured with a $4,000 bond. All licensees must employ one person who holds an administrator's certificate as a general electrical contractor administrator, or as a specialty electrical contractor administrator in the specialty for which the license application was made.
Summary of Bill: A new classification of specialty electrical contractor's license is established for electrical projects of 24 volts or less. These low-voltage electrical contractor licensees are not subject to the requirement of an administrator's certificate.
Appropriation: None.
Fiscal Note: Requested on February 15, 1995.
Effective Date: Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
