Title:  An act relating to use of school transportation funds for sidewalks.

Background:   Money allocated by the state for student transportation must be spent for student transportation activities and cannot be used to mitigate hazardous walking conditions.

 

Summary of Bill:  School districts may use transportation funds to pay for all or part of a sidewalk construction project if the district can show that the project reduces future district transportation costs or reduce the need for buses.

 

School districts may apply to the Superintendent of Public Instruction for additional, one-time allocations to invest in sidewalk construction projects.

 

Appropriation:  None.

Effective Date:  Ninety days after adjournment of session in which bill is passed.
