Background:  There are a number of different boards, commissions, and agencies responsible at the state level for setting policies for the education and training of students.

 

Summary of Substitute Bill:  The Legislature requests the Governor to call a monthly meeting of the Commission on Student Learning, the Higher Education Coordinating Board, a representative of the public four-year institutions of higher education, the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, the State Board of Education, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, and the Work Force Training and Education Coordinating Board.  At the meetings, the entities must identify and remove barriers to creating a seamless education system.  Any findings must be reported to the Legislature.

 

Substitute Bill Compared to Original Bill:  A representative of the public four-year institutions of higher education is added.

 

Appropriation:  None.

 

Fiscal Note:  Not requested.

 

Testimony For:  Under other legislation, the groups have met to resolve issues such as high school credit equivalencies.  The groups work well together.  The four-year institutions of higher education should be included.
