Authorizing agreements regarding smoking in the workplace that provide for a designated enclosed smoking room.



    AN ACT Relating to agreements regarding smoking in the workplace; adding a new section to chapter 49.17 RCW; and declaring an emergency.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 49.17 RCW to read as follows:

    An employer policy restricting indoor smoking in the workplace must include, if the employer and his or her employees agree, provision for a designated enclosed smoking room.  The designated smoking room shall be deemed to meet any ventilation requirements of this chapter if it is ventilated as agreed by the employer and employees.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  This act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, or safety, or support of the state government and its existing public institutions, and shall take effect immediately.
