Creating a dispute resolution center study commission.



    AN ACT Relating to court fees funding dispute resolution centers; and creating a new section.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  (1) The dispute resolution center study commission is created to consist of seven members as follows:  (a) Two members of the senate law and justice committee, one from each of the major caucuses, who are appointed by the secretary of the senate; (b) two members of the house of representatives law and justice committee, one from each of the major caucuses, who are appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives; (c) a court administrator; (d) a director of a dispute resolution center; and (e) one representative of the collection industry, appointed by the governor.  The administrator for the courts shall provide for the staffing and expenses of the commission.

    (2) The dispute resolution center study commission shall review the current method for funding dispute resolution centers and study alternative methods for providing such funding, including use of alternative funding sources.  The commission shall submit a written report of its findings and any recommendations for legislation to the law and justice committees of the senate and the house of representatives by December 1, 1995.
