HOUSE BILL 1578
_______________________________________________
State of Washington 54th Legislature 1995 Regular Session
By Representatives Valle, Poulsen, Cody and Veloria
Read first time 01/31/95. Referred to Committee on Capital Budget.
AN ACT Relating to making an appropriation for the purchase of property for environmental and park purposes; creating a new section; and making an appropriation.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. The legislature finds that preservation of lands in urban areas for open space, wildlife habitat, and recreational trail use has become increasingly important in recent years as the state's population grows and lands are converted to other uses. The purpose of this act is to provide funding to purchase environmentally sensitive lands in the city of Burien for the protection of wildlife, open space, and recreational values for future generations, and to provide educational opportunities for citizens and children of the state.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. The sum of five hundred thousand dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1997, from the state building construction account to the state parks and recreation commission for the purpose of purchasing the "Emerald Pointe" properties in the city of Burien. After purchase, ownership of the lands shall be transferred to the city of Burien for preservation as open space and wildlife habitat, and for recreational and educational purposes.
