Limiting travel allowances for certain school district employees.



    AN ACT Relating to travel allowance or reimbursement for school employees; and adding a new section to chapter 28A.400 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28A.400 RCW to read as follows:

    (1) School district administrators, including, but not limited to, superintendents, assistant superintendents, associate superintendents, executive directors, finance managers, personnel directors, principals, and assistant principals, may not be provided a travel allowance or receive compensation or reimbursement for in-district travel expenses, including mileage.

    (2) Other school district personnel may not be provided a travel allowance or receive compensation or reimbursement for in-district mileage traveled unless such travel is specified as an inherent part of the job in a written job description, is approved in writing before the travel occurs, is essential to adequate performance of job responsibility, is the least costly alternative available to the employee, and has not been considered in establishing the salary rate of the employee.

    (3) School district personnel may not be provided a travel allowance or receive compensation or reimbursement for out-of-district mileage in an amount greater than the internal revenue service travel allowance for mileage current at the time the travel occurred.
