Disqualifying from unemployment compensation persons whose public employment contract is bought out.



    AN ACT Relating to unemployment compensation for persons with public employment contracts; and adding a new section to chapter 50.20 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 50.20 RCW to read as follows:

    (1) An individual is disqualified from benefits if:

    (a) The individual was employed under contract by a public institution and paid with state funds;

    (b) The employment ended before the termination date of the contract; and

    (c) The individual received compensation to buy out the remainder of the contract.

    (2) The individual is disqualified from benefits for the period of time for which the salary that would have been received under the contract equals the compensation received to buy out the contract.

    (3) As used in this section, "buy out" means the payment of compensation to purchase the individual's contract interest in employment for the remainder of the contract term.
