Creating an endowed chair in the graduate school of public affairs at the University of Washington.



    AN ACT Relating to higher education; creating new sections; and making an appropriation.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  It is the intent of the legislature to improve the education and training of students preparing for leadership positions in public service.  To that end, this act establishes a permanent chair in the graduate school of public affairs at the University of Washington through an endowment financed in equal parts by public and private funds.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  The sum of seven hundred fifty thousand dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1997, from the general fund to the University of Washington for the purposes of establishing an endowment for a permanent chair in the graduate school of public affairs.

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 3.  The University of Washington shall provide private funds in an amount equal to or greater than seven hundred fifty thousand dollars or the appropriation in section 2 of this act shall lapse.
