Reducing the state property tax levy.

    AN ACT Relating to reducing the state property tax levy for 1996 and thereafter; adding a new section to chapter 84.55 RCW; and creating a new section.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 84.55 RCW to read as follows:

    STATE LEVY.  The state levy for collection in 1996 shall not exceed ninety-five percent of the amount that could be levied under the law as in effect on January 1, 1995.  Levies collected before 1996 shall not be used as a base for calculating limits for state levies for collection after 1996.

NEW SECTION. Sec. 2.  EFFECTIVE YEAR.  This act shall be effective for taxes levied for collection in 1996 and thereafter.
