AN ACT Relating to international tourism; creating a new section; making appropriations; and declaring an emergency.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. The legislature recognizes a need to develop a cross-border business plan, to market the Pacific Northwest region to international travelers, and to develop public-private partnerships and joint marketing to enhance international tourism in selected overseas markets. The legislature further recognizes the need to conduct preliminary analysis on the infrastructure and logistic needs necessary for the Pacific Northwest region to host a summer Olympic Games.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. (1) The sum of forty thousand dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1995, from the general fund to the department of community, trade, and economic development, subject to subsection (2) of this section, for the purpose of developing a joint marketing plan to enhance international tourism by using the services of a nonprofit corporation.
(2) The appropriation under subsection (1) of this section may be used only when matched by the port of Seattle on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
(3) If specific funding for the purposes of this section referencing this section by bill number and section number, is not provided by June 30, 1995, in the omnibus appropriations act, this section is null and void.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 3. (1) The sum of fifty thousand dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1995, from the general fund to the department of community, trade, and economic development, subject to subsection (2) of this section, for the purpose of using a nonprofit corporation to develop a feasibility study of the infrastructure and logistical needs for the Pacific Northwest region to host the summer Olympic Games in the year 2004 or 2008.
(2) The appropriation under subsection (1) of this section may be used only when matched by the port of Seattle on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
(3) If specific funding for the purposes of this section referencing this section by bill number and section number, is not provided by June 30, 1995, in the omnibus appropriations act, this section is null and void.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 4. This act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, or safety, or support of the state government and its existing public institutions, and shall take effect immediately.
