Allowing independent candidates to withdraw from the general election.



    AN ACT Relating to independent candidates; and adding a new section to chapter 29.30 RCW.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 29.30 RCW to read as follows:

    An independent candidate for a partisan elective office, who is qualified to appear on the general election ballot in accordance with RCW 29.30.095, may withdraw his or her candidacy and have his or her name not printed on the general election ballot by filing a signed request that his or her name not be printed on the ballot.  The request must be filed with the officer with whom the declaration of candidacy was filed at any time before the close of business on the second Friday after the primary election.
