Requiring implementation of salmon restoration action plans.



     AN ACT Relating to salmon restoration; and creating a new section.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

      NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  (1) By July 1, 1996, the department of fish and wildlife shall develop and implement an aggressive salmon restoration action plan in those areas most impacted by fishery closures resulting from past federal court cases.

      (2) The salmon restoration action plan shall:

      (a) Focus on habitats most easily improved;

      (b) Use volunteers to the greatest extent possible;

      (c) Emphasize the restoration of chinook and coho species;

      (d) Create new fisheries and enhance existing fisheries; and

      (e) Incorporate the use of remote site incubators, where possible.

      (3) The department shall report to the appropriate standing committees of the legislature by December 1, 1996, on the implementation of the plan.
