Funding the courts.

     AN ACT Relating to appropriations for the courts; making appropriations; and declaring an emergency.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  (1) The sum of two million five hundred fifty-eight thousand one hundred twenty-four dollars is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1997, from the general fund to the office of the administrator for the courts, the supreme court, and the court of appeals for the purposes of administering and operating the courts as follows:

     (a) One million four hundred fifty-three thousand three hundred seven dollars for the administrator for the courts;

     (b) One hundred ninety-two thousand eight hundred six dollars for the supreme court; and

     (c) Nine hundred twelve thousand eleven dollars for the court of appeals.

     (2) This section is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, or safety, or support of the state government and its existing public institutions, and shall take effect immediately.

NEW SECTION. Sec. 2.  The sum of two million three hundred seventy-eight thousand two hundred fourteen dollars is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1997, from the public safety and education account to the office of the administrator for the courts for the purposes under RCW 43.08.250 with specific amounts appropriated as follows:

     (1) The sum of two million one hundred thirty-three thousand four hundred ninety-six dollars is provided solely for indigent appellate defense;

     (2) The sum of one hundred fifty-seven thousand one hundred ninety-three dollars is provided solely for court business improvement support; and

     (3) The sum of eighty-seven thousand five hundred twenty-five dollars is provided solely for the courts of limited jurisdiction assessment project.

NEW SECTION. Sec. 3.  The sum of six million three hundred twenty-seven thousand nine hundred seventy dollars is appropriated for the biennium ending June 30, 1997, from the judicial information system account to the office of the administrator for the courts for the purposes under RCW 2.68.020.
