Replacing statutory term limits with constitutional term limits.



    AN ACT Relating to replacing statutory term limits with constitutional term limits; repealing RCW 7.16.370, 29.15.240, 29.51.173, 29.68.015, 29.68.016, 43.01.015, and 44.04.015; repealing 1993 c 1 s 1 (uncodified); repealing 1993 c 1 s 8 (uncodified); repealing 1993 c 1 s 10 (uncodified); and providing a contingent effective date.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.  The following acts or parts of acts are each repealed:

    (1) RCW 7.16.370 and 1993 c 1 s 9;

    (2) RCW 29.15.240 and 1993 c 1 s 7;

    (3) RCW 29.51.173 and 1993 c 1 s 6;

    (4) RCW 29.68.015 and 1993 c 1 s 4;

    (5) RCW 29.68.016 and 1993 c 1 s 5;

    (6) RCW 43.01.015 and 1993 c 1 s 2;

    (7) RCW 44.04.015 and 1993 c 1 s 3;

    (8) 1993 c 1 s 1 (uncodified);

    (9) 1993 c 1 s 8 (uncodified); and

    (10) 1993 c 1 s 10 (uncodified).

 

    NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  This act takes effect January 1, 1997, if the amendment to Article II, section 7, and Article III, section 25, of the state Constitution by Senate Joint Resolution No. . . . limiting the terms of state legislators and elected state officers is validly submitted to and is approved and ratified by the voters at the next general election.  If the proposed amendment is not so approved and ratified, this act is void in its entirety.
