                  _______________________________________________

State of Washington              54th Legislature             1995 Regular Session

By Representatives Chandler and Mastin

Read first time 4/12/95.

Establishing a task force on agricultural safety standards.

     WHEREAS, The state's highly productive and efficient agricultural sector is composed predominately of family-owned and managed farms and an industrious and efficient work force; and

     WHEREAS, A reasonable level of safety regulation is needed to protect agricultural workers and the farm owners and farm family members who work in agricultural operations; and

     WHEREAS, The smaller but highly efficient farming operations would benefit from safety rules that are as agriculture-specific as possible, that are readily understandable, and that are in the nature of an easily referred to field manual for agricultural operations rather than in the form of design specifications for manufacturing operations;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the House of Representatives of the state of Washington, the Senate concurring, That a task force on agricultural safety standards be established to develop and recommend for adoption safety rules that should apply to the agricultural industry under the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the task force consist of the following eight members:  Four members appointed by the President of the Senate, two from each political party in the Senate; and four members appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, two from each political party in the House of Representatives; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the task force report its recommendations to the legislature at the regular session held in 1996.
