Calling for a study to reduce the size of the Revised Code of Washington.



    WHEREAS, The Revised Code of Washington now consists of eight thousand three hundred forty-nine pages in seven volumes and contains in excess of forty-one thousand sections of law; and

    WHEREAS, The size of the Revised Code of Washington continues to grow each year; and

    WHEREAS, Some of the provisions of the Revised Code of Washington have become obsolete or contain defects or anachronisms that render them unnecessary to inequitable; and

    WHEREAS, An important goal of the Legislature is to clarify and simplify the laws of the state of Washington;

    NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, By the Senate of the state of Washington, the House of Representatives concurring, That the Legislature shall set aside a period of time to plan and undertake a review of the Revised Code of Washington for unnecessary or obsolete laws; and

    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That during the interim following the 1995 session the Legislature through its committees and individual members shall elicit the recommendations of citizens throughout the state regarding reducing the unnecessary size and complexity of the Revised Code of Washington; and

    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Legislature shall introduce legislation in 1996 to implement any recommendations for improvements to the Revised Code of Washington that result from this process.
