Correcting obsolete references in the state even start program.



     AN ACT Relating to obsolete provisions in the state even start program; and amending RCW 28B.06.040 and 28B.06.050.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     Sec. 1.  RCW 28B.06.040 and 1987 c 518 s 107 are each amended to read as follows:

     The ((superintendent of public instruction)) state board for community and technical colleges is authorized and directed, whenever possible, to fund or cooperatively work with existing adult literacy programs and parenting related programs offered through the common school and community and technical college systems((, vocational-technical institutes,)) or community-based, nonprofit organizations to provide services for eligible parents before developing and funding new adult literacy programs to carry out the purposes of project even start.

 

     Sec. 2.  RCW 28B.06.050 and 1987 c 518 s 108 are each amended to read as follows:

     The ((superintendent of public instruction shall evaluate and submit to the legislature by January 15, 1988, a report on the effectiveness of project even start.  The initial report shall include, if appropriate, recommendations relating to the expansion of project even start.  The superintendent)) state board for community and technical colleges shall submit a report to the legislature on project even start ((every two years after the initial report)) January 15th of even-numbered years.
