HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 96-4716, by Representative Foreman

 

      WHEREAS, It is the policy of the Washington State Legislature to recognize excellence in all fields of endeavor; and

      WHEREAS, Organized athletics promote in part the values necessary for scholastic and life success inasmuch as participation, contribution, and success in athletics hones, develops, and cultivates perseverance, dedication, sacrifice, teamwork, integrity, sportsmanship, loyalty, and spirit; and

      WHEREAS, The Cascade Kodiak Football Team won its third consecutive Caribou Trail League title by finishing the regular season undefeated and entered the postseason as the highest scoring team in the state; and

      WHEREAS, On December 2, 1995, the Kodiaks played in the first Washington State "A" Football Championship in school history, finishing second; and

      WHEREAS, The extraordinary achievements of the Cascade Kodiaks would not have been possible without Brian Koch, Ryan Hansen, Lance Ballew, Peyton Piestrup, Brian Anderson, Barry Warren, Steve Hurt, Casey Sanger, Joe Klemz, Joel Solem, and Mike Wall; and

      WHEREAS, These extraordinary achievements would not have been possible without the instruction, guidance, and leadership of Head Coach Jack McMillan, Assistant Coaches John Bangsund, Steve Simonson, Russ Schauer, Elia Ala'ilima-Daley, and Gary Driessen, or without the unequivocal support of Team Managers Jay Dirkse, Ryan Johnston, and Travis West and encouragement of the Cascade Student Body, faculty and staff, alumni, family and friends, community members, and fans;

      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the state of Washington honor the highest level of excellence in achievement shown by the Cascade Kodiaks and for the shining example of inspiration such achievements have set for others; and

      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to Marilyn Baker, Cascade Superintendent, Gary Brunelle, Athletic Director, Bill Keim, Principal, and Jack McMillan, Head Coach.
