HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 96-4718, by Representatives Sehlin, Beeksma, Veloria and Foreman

 

       WHEREAS, It is the policy of the Washington State Legislature to recognize excellence in all fields of endeavor; and

       WHEREAS, The Filipino-American Association of Oak Harbor exemplifies excellence in accomplishments, contributions, and service to this great State of Washington; and

       WHEREAS, The Filipino-American Association of Oak Harbor will have occasion on Easter Sunday, 1996, to celebrate its 25th anniversary; and

       WHEREAS, The Filipino-American Association of Oak Harbor has successfully endeavored to promote, advance, and encourage the vitality, spirit, and richness of cultural heritage; and

       WHEREAS, The Filipino-American Association of Oak Harbor illustrated the rich heritage of the Philippines by sponsoring traditional folk dances in many different celebrations, by performing holiday and Christmas carols in the native dialect of the Philippines in many different festivals, and as patron and supporter of Philippine artifact exhibits in various events, all of which have educated the community in the traditions, history, and customs of the Philippines as well as the accomplishments and contributions of Filipino-Americans; and

       WHEREAS, The Filipino-American Association of Oak Harbor has also demonstrated an unwavering commitment to education and investment in our young citizens through its administration and award of higher education scholarships for the past two decades, valued efforts which have allowed a great many individuals to matriculate in higher education and which have also enured to the greater benefit of the community; and

       WHEREAS, The Filipino-American Association of Oak Harbor has also selflessly and greatly contributed to the betterment and improvement of our communities, illustrated by such efforts as organizing and participating in community litter drives, canned-food drives, holiday food and gift basket giving for those less fortunate, as well as community events such as the Asian-Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration and the All People's Celebration;

       NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the highest level of excellence shown by the Filipino-American Association of Oak Harbor, which, for the past twenty-five years has demonstrated excellence in service and contribution to the great State of Washington through its many different activities, and for the shining example of inspiration it has set for others; and

       BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to the Filipino-American Association of Oak Harbor.
