HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 96-4730, by Representatives Basich, Ogden, Linville and Dellwo

 

     WHEREAS, The Washington State Legislature will join the citizens of Washington in welcoming the nationally renowned dancers Robert and Monique Hrouda for a dance exhibition in the Legislative Building On Tuesday, February 27; and

     WHEREAS, The exhibition will begin at noon in the Rotunda that day; and

     WHEREAS, Reflecting one of the most personal and effective methods of communication, dance is the oldest and surely the most beautiful of the arts; and

     WHEREAS, Societies all over the world celebrate special occasions through their unique and distinct dances; and

     WHEREAS, Each of us young and old has enjoyed one or more diverse dances ranging from ballet, to ballroom, to break, to the cha-cha, to the Charleston, to clogging, to contra, to country and western, to disco, to ethnic, to the fox trot, to the funky chicken, to hip hop, to the hustle, to jazz, to the jitterbug, to jive, to Latin, to the limbo, to the mashed potato, to merengue, to pasa doble, to the polka, to the quick step, to rock 'n' roll, to salsa, to samba, to schottische, to shag, to smooth, to swing, to the tango, to tap, to the twist, to the waltz, and we will forever partake of these and other athletic and wonderful movements; and

     WHEREAS, Dancing is as much an art form as it is recreation, and it provides fun, exercise, relaxation, and companionship; and

     WHEREAS, The International Olympic Games will soon include dancing as a competitive and spectacular event; and

     WHEREAS, The newly formed Rock 'n' Roll Dance Club at Aberdeen High School, featuring students Nick Chicano, Eddie Draper, Rick Eaton, Joe Fagerstedt, Tomika Gilbert, Bryce Godfrey, Brad Goings, Jonathon Gozart, Darlena Hass, Erika Jones, Katie Kilgore, Keri Lay, Bryan Moran, Amber Prince, Megan Peterson, Kati Schafer, Kristen Slane, Rhianna Strange, Jared Todd, Jenny Todd, Meca Tubbs, and Amanda Warner, will join in the very special exhibition of dance on February 27; and

     WHEREAS, Washington State Representatives Bob Basich and Kelli Linville will also participate in the exhibition, demonstrating basic ballroom and country and western dance steps; and

     WHEREAS, Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend the exhibition and performances, and then begin or continue their own personal and splendid tradition of dancing;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives salute the extraordinary grace and dexterity of not just Robert and Monique Hrouda, but also the Aberdeen High School dancers and other dancers of all ages and lands near and far; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be immediately transmitted by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to Robert and Monique Hrouda and to Aberdeen High School.
