HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 96-4739, by Representatives Cole, Basich, Chopp, Regala, Mitchell, Skinner, Conway, Scheuerman and D. Schmidt

 

      WHEREAS, The Washington State House of Representatives recognize that Washington State and the Pacific Northwest produce some of the most talented and creative musicians and artists in the world; and

      WHEREAS, The House of Representatives recognize the importance of celebrating and encouraging the music, art, and culture of Washington and the Pacific Northwest; and

      WHEREAS, Seattle's City Cantabile Choir and its director and founder Frederick West have, for the past 15 years, performed, presented, and composed some of the most outstanding choral music ever heard in Washington State and the Pacific Northwest, including many original works by Washington State and regional artists from the Pacific Northwest; and

      WHEREAS, The City Cantabile Choir, has received a special invitation from the Lord Mayors of Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, and Graz, Austria, to participate as a representative of Washington State in the Millennium Anniversary Celebration of the founding of the Republic of Austria in July 1996; and

      WHEREAS, This invitation was extended in recognition of the City Cantabile Choir's musical and cultural achievements;

      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the City Cantabile Choir of Seattle, Washington, founded and directed by Frederick West, is recognized by the House of Representatives as an official representative and cultural ambassador of the State of Washington to the Millennium Anniversary Celebration of the Republic of Austria, to be held in July 1996; and

      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City Cantabile Choir, and its Director Frederick West, shall convey greetings and congratulations to the Governor and Mayor of Vienna, the Lord Mayor of Salzburg, the Lord Mayor of Innsbruck, and the Lord Mayor of Graz, Austria, and all of the citizens of the Republic of Austria, from the Washington State House of Representatives upon the occasion of the Millennium Celebration of the founding of the Republic of Austria.
