Allowing cities and towns in which citizens have the power of initiative to impose reasonable requirements to assure the validity of signatures on the initiative petition.



     AN ACT Relating to initiative petition requirements for cities and towns; and amending RCW 35.17.270.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

     Sec. 1.  RCW 35.17.270 and 1965 c 7 s 35.17.270 are each amended to read as follows:

     Every signer to a petition submitting a proposed ordinance to the commission shall add to his or her signature his or her printed name as it appears on the voter registration roles, place of residence giving street ((and)), number, and city or town.  The signatures need not all be appended to one paper((, but one of the signers on each paper must attach thereto an affidavit stating the number of signatures thereon, that each signature thereon is a genuine signature of the person whose name it purports to be and that the statements therein made are true as he believes)).
