AN ACT Relating to telecommunications companies; and adding a new section to chapter 80.36 RCW.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 80.36 RCW to read as follows:
(1) Every telecommunications company registered in this state that provides billing services for telecommunications services provided by another company shall:
(a) Clearly indicate in any billing statement any amounts that are disputed between the customer and any of the companies for which billing is provided;
(b) Be prohibited from disclosing to a credit reporting bureau any amounts that are in dispute between the customer and any of the companies for which billing is provided; and
(c) Only provide billing services for companies providing telecommunications services that can be contacted on billing inquiries by a toll-free number for at least twelve hours each day, excluding holidays.
(2) The commission may adopt additional rules regulating billing for telecommunications services.
