Providing for the management of cougar population levels.



    AN ACT Relating to transport tags for game; and amending RCW 77.32.320.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

    Sec. 1.  RCW 77.32.320 and 1990 c 84 s 4 are each amended to read as follows:

    (1) In addition to a basic hunting license, a separate transport tag is required to hunt deer, elk, bear, cougar, sheep, mountain goat, moose, or wild turkey.  The commission may authorize the purchase of cougar transport tags subsequent to a harvest without hounds and stipulate conditions for their validation and use.  The commission shall review the management of cougars on a regular basis.

    (2) A transport tag may only be obtained subsequent to the purchase of a valid hunting license and must have permanently affixed to it the hunting license number or as required by the commission under subsection (1) of this section.

    (3) Persons who kill deer, elk, bear, cougar, mountain goat, sheep, moose, or wild turkey shall immediately validate and attach their own transport tag to the carcass as provided by rule of the director.

    (4) Transport tags required by this section expire on March 31st following the date of issuance.
